Thanks to everyone for posting your beautiful photos. Judging this Dinner Social was very difficult, but Lou Manna and I have chosen the three photos we thought best showed the elegance, fun and appeal of the food. Congratulations to CYNDISUE, HUNGRYENGINEER, and ALLISONV7 who each win a brand new Olympus Stylus 1030SW Camera!

Baked Oysters with Fresh Thyme and Garlic
This is a delicate dish that can be thought of as the more refined sister of Oysters Rockefeller. Rather than drowning the oysters in cheese, the garlic and lemon in this recipe let the oysters shine.

Potato Goat Cheese Royale
This twice baked potato gains a wonderful tang from the goat cheese while remaining decadently rich because of the eggs and cream. Elegant and simple, these are perfect bites of classic comfort.

There is less than one week left to submit your photos for the Cozy Winter Dinner Contest! Remember that the three people with the best photos of their dinner will win a brand new Olympus 1030SW camera - so please post your photos if you haven’t already.

There have been some questions about the Coq au Vin dish - we have adapted the traditional Coq au Vin recipe and modernized it. In terms of using a supermarket-bought bird vs. an older bird - the difference is most supermarket birds are bred by exact standards and are more tender than the old birds. The long, slow cooking process helps the chicken fully absorb all of the flavors from the wine (we recommend using rhone style reds) and vegetables. The braise was kept at a constant temperature of 190 degrees.

Winter is a time for snow and warming up by a roaring fire, but it is also a great time for cozy, comfort foods. The winter bounty is greater than you may think – oysters are at their best, and fruits like blood oranges and pomegranates are in season. For this Dinner Social, I have put together a menu of my favorite winter dishes. They are colorful dishes that will brighten your spirits and warm your stomach.
